A Favourite Quotation

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.    Mark Twain

Shortlisted.

I have just been notified that I have been shortlisted by The Oxford Editors in their short story competition. I rarely enter competitions; I’m usually too busy writing or working. To say I am thrilled would be an understatement.
The Oxford Editors is an international literary consultancy and agency. They hold a short story and first chapter competition each year. As I say, I don’t often enter competitions despite the constant nagging feeling that I ought too. (I haven’t quite figured out the underlying psychological reasoning behind that yet!) The last time I entered anything was 2001 when I sent a Pets ‘r’ Fun piece to an RSPCA competition and claimed third prize, but that’s another story - no pun intended. Anyway I finally scratched the itch and sent a short story entitled, Meadow Lane to The Oxford Editors. Mary Anne Blyth, the head of admin, has informed me that I am shortlisted. It’s surprising how excited I am.
